Remember that trailer we had posted a few weeks ago? Well it turns out that video just got uploaded by Kailey today, and we are ready to reveal what the trailer is going to be used for. I will admit that I’m second guessing my decision after hearing everyone else’s ideas. Maybe we should have considered a Bed and Breakfast or a food trailer? Anyways, nice job Cindy Brunzell on your guess of a chicken tractor!
When we first brought the trailer out to the pasture, I wondered what in the world we were thinking as our egg production plummeted to 4, and we were laying under the trailer with head lamps on grabbing chickens to put them to bed at night and gathering eggs for several evenings. None of them wanted to lay in the nest boxes for several days so the eggs were everywhere. Thankfully we didn’t have any egg orders during that time and all is well again. The chickens are happy, laying mostly in the nest boxes, and their egg production is back to normal. Praise the Lord! We are not currently taking egg customers at this time, but we do have an extra dozen or two now and then that I will post on the website. I don’t have anyone on my waiting list so if you would like to join that let me know and I will be happy to add you!
Our chickens are moved every two days to new pasture and the eggs are collected daily, cleaned (although most are already clean), refrigerated, and ready to be delivered or picked up very fresh by our customers. Until we are sure that predators aren’t getting into the net, we have a little door that shuts at dark and opens early in the morning. The chickens do the same thing regardless and roost. One new thing since this video was taken was that my husband got my great grandpa’s old Ford tractor running, that’s been sitting around so long that I had to wonder if it would ever move again! Aiden gets to go out and move it every two days, and I can tell he’s excited to be able to drive it, which is good because I don’t have a clue. ? Do you have any spring projects you are working on?
