Week 31: Get the Toxins Out . . . Of Our Household Cleaners

For the next several weeks we will be focusing on getting the toxins out of our household cleaners. During chicken butchering today, I asked Kailey if she had any thoughts on what cleaning product I should mention first, and she quickly mentioned dusting spray. Kailey explained that before we started making our own dusting spray, she hated dusting because of the sore throat, cough, and headache she would get every time she dusted. Until we started making our own dusting spray, she thought it was the dust. Since it doesn’t happen anymore when she dusts, we have to wonder if it was the spray. She says she still doesn’t enjoy dusting, but at least she doesn’t feel bad when she’s done.

When Cory and I were first married I used an aerosol dusting spray that was loaded with toxic ingredients and fragrances. Whenever I used it, my throat would get sore and my cough would get worse. In fact, all the cleaning products I used gave me a sore throat and a terribly annoying cough. I enjoyed cleaning before I switched my cleaning products, but now I really enjoy it, because I feel great when I’m done. I put up with those toxic cleaning products for years, because I didn’t know what else to use. I have discovered a better way, and I can’t wait to share this with you!

After my grandma’s cancer diagnosis several years ago, her and I started looking at the ingredients in our cleaning products and researching what they were. It didn’t take us long to figure out that there had to be a better way. We started with buying natural cleaning products, and while these were better, I discovered that I could do a lot better if I made my own. In fact, it was a natural dusting spray that my grandma and I had purchased at a health food store that was giving Kailey her symptoms. Instead of assuming it was natural, I should have read the ingredients. I have learned a lot of lessons the hard way. I will be sharing what I use to dust my house this week as we get the toxins out of our house!

Our family has learned to slow down, make careful observations of what heals/damages, get rid of the distractions, take a little more time preparing our food, and most importantly to seek the Lord’s wisdom. It’s a daily struggle and it never goes perfectly, but we just keep trying to do the best we can. If you are working toward a more traditional, clean, whole foods diet, and would like to take small steps to get there, then you are at the right place. Week one was get your salt right, week 2 was get your sleep right, weeks 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 were get your fats right, we had several weeks about seasonings and herbs, some important discussion about natural sweeteners, talked about Forgiveness, hopefully we got our eggs right, learned about the benefits of pastured, clean meats, considered getting mercury removed, we got the toxins out of our mouth, skin, and hair, and this week we will focus on our house. Join us next Tuesday for Get Your . . . Right.
