Homemade Toxic Free Dusting Spray

Last week I shared my recipe that I love for polishing, and today I will be sharing my dusting spray recipe that I use often. My kids love to help dust and especially to use this spray. The only problem is they often use more than I would. A little supervision is always good. The great things about this recipe are the natural ingredients, and the fact that we don’t feel bad when we use it. It also contains ingredients that most of us have in our homes, and it’s a very frugal option. An observation that I have made with this dusting spray is that it doesn’t seem to attracts dust like the store bought sprays that I used to use, which means less dusting for me! Because of the vinegar and essential oils in this recipe, I like to use a amber glass bottle, but I have used plastic bottles too.

This recipe is even easier than my polish recipe and only uses 3 or 4 ingredients. They are vinegar, olive oil, water, and essential oil (optional). I’m hoping to try putting orange peels in my vinegar soon, since I use so much vinegar for cleaning and don’t really care for the smell. Hopefully I can share those results soon!

I have done a lot of research in caring for wood naturally, but I’m far from an expert in this area. While I have used this on unfinished wood and finished wood, I highly recommend doing your own research and always doing a small unnoticeable area to be sure the results are what you want. Have you tried a homemade dusting spray? What did you think?

Toxic Free Dusting Spray

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 15 drops essential oil

Notes

Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl and then add to an amber glass bottle with a sprayer. Be sure to shake before and during use. When I’m shaking this, I always remind myself to be glad that this does not contain emulsifiers to keep the mixture from separating. These emulsifiers are known to be harmful to our health and without them our mixture will separate.
