Does it Really Matter?

Recently I purchased ink for our printer that we have had for several years. The description stated that it could be used with the printer we had. We added the ink and a few weeks later started having a lot of issues with our printer. To make a long story short we contacted Epson for help and the first question they asked us was, “Are you using Epson ink?” No, we weren’t, and I had not known there was a difference, but now I do.

Most of the time we understand that if we don’t put quality ingredients in our mechanical devices they won’t perform as well, but when it comes to food, there seems to be a disconnect in our culture. A few months ago, I was visiting with a friend, and she told me that she was frustrated. Her husband that has type 2 diabetes went to his appointment to check his condition and was told that he could eat anything he wanted and to just take his medicine. Another friend shared that her mother with multiple health issues was told to eat sugar and processed food in moderation. We were both confused by what “moderation” meant, and her mother took it as permission to eat whatever she wanted. Her health continues to decline. How many people can just eat a little junk when it’s so addictive?

I never judge anyone for what they eat, but when people complain of health issues to me, I just want to bring them home with me and care for them. I wonder what would happen if they were able to get back to eating real food (basic ingredients), grown and raised in healthy soil and properly prepared in our cozy kitchen. Nothing added nothing removed. What if they could get out in the fresh air and sunshine and get to bed at a decent time, to get that body really moving and sweating out toxins, to stop putting so many toxins in and on their bodies. What if they could reduce their stress level by slowing down, cutting out distractions, removing the clutter, and spending more time with the Lord. Our biggest need is the Gospel, and what we eat is not our Savior, but would there be less suffering if we sought out the Lord’s wisdom about what food is, and how to grow it, by digging into His word and observing and mimicking his amazing creation in nature.

What do you think? Does it really matter what we eat?
